How Hotel Groups Ramp Up New Hygiene Protocols Amid COVID-19
With regards to the COVID-19 pandemic, hotel groups around the world have announced new hygiene protocols to assure the safety and wellbeing of future guests for when it is safe to travel again.
Take a glimpse of how hotel groups around the world are putting in an effort to curb the spread of COVID-19:
To provide future guests with a peace of mind and reassurance for when they stay at any Hilton’s properties, Hilton is expected to roll out a CleanStay Initiative in June 2020. This initiative is a collaboration with Reckitt Benckiser Group plc, the producer of Lysol and Dettol, plus consulting with Mayo Clinic to elevate all cleaning and disinfection protocols from check-in to check-out.
Hilton CleanStay Room Seal
To add an additional measure of reassuring future guests, a room seal would be placed on doors to make it known that the room has not been accessed since being thoroughly cleaned.
The hotel group is exploring the addition of new technologies, such as electrostatic sprayers which utilize an electrostatically charged disinfection mist as well as ultraviolet light to sterilize objects and surfaces.
To further strengthen the operational guidance and resources around their staff and guest safety, and peace of mind, Hyatt has announced a multi-layered Global Care & Cleanliness Commitment which builds on the hotel group existing protocols and includes an accreditation procedure by the Global Biorisk Advisory Council, a division of ISSA, at all Hyatt hotels around the world.
Hotel-Level Sanitization Specialists
As a part of Hyatt’s Global Care & Cleanliness Commitment, by September 2020, every Hyatt hotel will have at least one individual onsite trained as a Hygiene Manager who will be responsible to ensure that their hotel adheres to the new operating guidelines and protocol.
Examples of new operating guidelines and protocol:
Explore purification and sanitation device installation in an effort to ensure enhanced air quality
Colleague certification, training and recertification process for hygiene and cleanliness
Protective masks and other equipment for hotel staffs
To ensure that the actions that IHG are taking are thorough and appropriate, the hotel groups are in contact with global organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The Council will be focusing on building the next level of standards to limit the risk and improve safety for everybody on the premises.
