1. The Basin, Rottnest Island

Located just 18 kilometres away from Perth, a visit here is the perfect weekend getaway if you’re looking to appreciate nature in all its wonder either alone and you can bring your loved ones for a beach picnic with a view to remember.

2. Mindil Beach, Darwin

Mindil Beach in Darwin is one of those special beaches where you’re in for a magical time everyday during sunset. Go early to get a good spot on the beach, lay out your picnic mat, get the beer out from your cooler and then just wait to be amazed! The beach markets here are pretty awesome as well so don’t miss your chance to get stuff there. However, this is not a beach for swimming as there have been instances of crocodile sightings so just stay on the beach and don’t go in the water.

3. Burleigh Heads, Gold Coast

This is one spot not to miss if you’re an early riser as you’ll be treated to an amazing sunrise you won’t be soon forgetting. Get a coffee at a cafe nearby to take in the morning sea breeze and watch surfers ride the waves, or snap some nice shots of the coastline before the rest of the crowd gets there. At night, there’s lot to do here too, with a whole stretch of bars and restaurants all along the promenade.

4. Main Beach, Byron Bay

Byron Bay is one of those cities that revolves around its beaches. Many surfers come here to ride the waves and enjoy the fun in the sun chilling on the beach after surfing. Its most popular beach is Main Beach and it’s filled with cafes, bars, bbq stands, good looking people and pretty much anything you’re looking for in a good weekend getaway.

5. Gibson Steps, Great Ocean Road

If you prefer to take a road-trip, there’s probably no better place than to drive along the Great Ocean Road. And you just have to see The 12 Apostles along the way, so instead of just passing by, park your ride, get your cameras out, walk down Gibson Steps to see this natural beauty in all its wonder from up close and personal. You’ll be rewarded with some special photographs to show to all your friends back home, but be careful and watch the tides.

7. Railay Beach, Krabi, Thailand

Railay is the perfect spot if you’re looking for something a little more adventurous in your weekend getaway. This is one beach that is truly off the beaten path. In fact, you’ll need to get there by boat as there is no connecting road from Krabi, due to the high limestone cliffs. It’s these same cliffs that make Railay world famous for rock-climber all over the world who come here seeking a true adventure paradise. The beach itself is great for relaxing and chilling out after a day of adventure. Accomodation options here are limited so book in advance to avoid disappointment.
