United States
Happy Father’s Day! In the United States, this holiday was first established as a state-wide holiday in Washington in 1910, introduced by a woman named Sonora Smart Dodd. Throughout the years the holiday would spread, gaining support from Presidents Wilson, Coolidge, and Johnson. In 1972, President Nixon finally signed Father’s Day into law, making it an official national holiday.

Canada
Happy Father's Day! Did you know that Canada adopted the idea of Father’s Day from the U.S.? So the country also celebrates it on the third Sunday of June using somewhat similar traditions. A very common way Canadians honour their fathers is by wearing a rose. People wear a red rose if their father is alive, while those that wear a white rose are honouring their father who has passed.

Mexico
¡Feliz Día del Padre! Much like their neighbours up north, Mexico shares the same date and similar traditions of Father’s Day. However, a big difference is that in Mexico, there is an annual race that takes place in Mexico City called “Carrera Día del Padre 21K Bosque de Tlalpan.” Everyone is encouraged to participate in this race since it’s a great bonding opportunity for Fathers and their children.

Brazil
Feliz Dia dos Pais! Surprisingly, Father’s Day in Brazil is celebrated on the second Sunday of August every year. This came about when journalist Roberto Marinho had his publicist, Sylvio Bhering, choose the date in order to boost sales on his newspapers. Bhering chose this specific date since it’s also the feast day of Saint Joachim, known as the patron of fathers.
