Argentina
Although Argentina celebrates Valentine’s Day on February 14th, they also have their own separate date to celebrate love as well. During Semana de la Dulzura, also known as “Sweetness Week,” Argentineans exchange sweets and receive kisses in return. It’s a great tradition to meet new people; who knows, maybe you’ll end up finding your soulmate!
Buenos Aires
Brazil
The people of Brazil celebrate their own day of love on June 12th, known as Dia dos Namorados, which translates to “Lover’s Day” in english. Brazilians celebrate on this date since St. Anthony’s Day is on June 13th. Since St. Anthony was known as a saint of marriage and a matchmaker, women will typically perform rituals, hoping to find a husband.
Rio De Janeiro
Mexico
In Mexico, Valentine’s Day, or “Dia de San Valentin,” is a day of love and friendship. Many shops and restaurants are decorated heavily to fit the theme and many Mexicans go to extraordinarily great lengths to show their love and affection for others, like covering each other's cars with lovely messages on post-it notes! The messages fly off the car to spread their love.
Cancun
Peru
On Valentine’s Day, Peru celebrates El Dia del Amor y la Amistad, which translates to “The Day of Love and Friendship.” Like Mexico, Peru also celebrates love in romance and for the other people you care about. However, the flowers that are exchanged on this day are not your typical roses. Instead, orchids are exchanged, as they are native to Peru.
