Top 10 Places to Party at Night in Bangkok

Bangkok has many wonderful options to party once night falls in the capital city of Thailand. Its renowned globally as one of the best cities to party at night, and it surely does not disappoint even the most avid party goer. The hardest choice to make is where you should go to party, so Budget Air has created this guide to make it easy for you to decide. From skybars, cocktail bars, craft beer pubs and dance clubs, Bangkok has it all for your pleasure and enjoyment.

You can find the spot that is perfect for you to party with your friends. Here is our introduction to the top 10 places when you party in Bangkok. Be sure to dress according to the venue of your choice so you’re not denied entry when you show up there.

How to pick the right place to party?

The first question many first time travellers to Thailand will face is: “Which place should I go to party the night away in Bangkok?” The answer as cliche as it may sound is: “It all depends on you!” Let’s dig deeper into the question by looking at the personality of the traveller. The first and easiest classification is the type of traveller you are. Are you looking for a live music venue, or a club with a DJ, or a more romantic spot to chill with your lover? Perhaps you prefer drinking beer or wine, or you drink single malt whisky or only cocktails crafted by a expert mixologist. Or you’re a solo traveler and looking for a good spot to meet someone looking for a good time.

Before we dive deeper into which party places to go to, keep in mind these three important factors: dress code, ambience, and of course choice of alcohol.

Be prepared to follow a dress code when you party in Bangkok. Most places ask that party goers dress in smart casual, which means a nice top and jeans, with covered shoes would allow you entry in most party places on this list. Fancier sky-bars or cocktail bars require smarter wear like a buttoned shirt or tailored trousers. Leave your flip-flops at your hotel unless you’re drinking at one of the street side bars along Khao San Road. Thai party-goers are well known for their great fashion so dress to impress if you want to have a good time with the locals.

Next, pick the right ambience for your spot. There are many romantic and chill places if you’re there with a lover or a new found friend. Or perhaps you prefer a more noisy atmosphere if you want to dance along with the music. For the finer things in life, there are specialized cigar bars, which offer premium cigars with whisky pairings in a fine environment complete with jazz bands and plush leather sofas.

Lastly, pick a bar based on the type of alcohol that you enjoy. You’ll find many great cocktails and craft alcohol on offer alongside the local beer brands and the generic choices of alcohol that you expect from back home.

Cigar and Whisky Bars

We’ll start off our guide with the most premium offering of party places in Bangkok: Cigar and Whisky Bars. A few years ago, these were far and hard to come by. Thankfully, in recent years, many new establishments have arisen to give greater choice to drinkers.

The most popular whisky and cigar bar is Whisgars, along Sukhumvit 23. On weekends, you can expect a crowd of well-heeled individuals and cigar lovers dancing along to jazz tunes from the live band. Whisgars specializes in premium non-Cuban cigars, with popular brands like Perdomo and Gurkha and Bespoke. These cigars are paired with exclusive single malt whiskies to bring out the finest flavor and aroma.

If you prefer Cuban cigars, then look no further than the La Casa del Habano at the Mandarin Oriental. This is one of the most formal places in all of Bangkok to party, since its one of the oldest hotels and one of the oldest cigar establishments in Asia. This is the official retailer of premium cigars direct from Havana, Cuba. Its connection to Bar of the Year, Bamboo Bar, make it a spot that you shouldn’t miss if you’re looking for the finest party experience.

Rounding up this list is the Humidor at the InterContinental Bangkok. This is a spot from fans and aficionados of premium cigars, offering the best of both Cuban and Dominican brands. With plush leather sofas in one of the cities finest hotels and a central location, make it a spot that is best for having an after work drink and smoke.

Cocktail Bars

Fuelled by the rise of expert mixologists all across the city, cocktail bars are the new in-thing. Bangkok’s bartenders are one of the world’s most highly rated by the annual competition, Diageo World Class, so expect to have a cocktail that you’ll remember.

Housed in a boutique hotel called Playhaus Thonglor, partygoers at Backstage Bar can expect an exciting night out with a backroom style ambience that is decorated by a dressing room from a Broadway musical. The music playing on the stereos here are groovy pop tunes that are sure to liven up your night. Its playful interior complement their twist on classic cocktails, using local aromas and special liquors to create a bespoke masterpiece.

Another place that is known for its unique interior is Iron Fairies in Thonglor. It has a magical whimsical design that is inspired by an ironsmith workshop with dark wood, pipes, and metallic staircases. You can expect to taste smoky and strong cocktails that bring out the best in imported alcohol. You have the choice of classic or innovative cocktails and you can even pair your cocktail with a premium Aussie beef burger. Peanuts are offered free of charge as well.

The last cocktail bar on our list, is Bad Motel Bar, Restaurant and Art Space. You’ll be forgiven if you thought it was the name of a hotel. Don’t be mistaken, its a refurbished house and is one of the largest mixed use venues for party-goers. Music here appeals to those who like old school funk and hip hop sounds. Drinks-wise, you’ll find everything from classic cocktails to imported Japanese craft beer. Occasionally Bad Motel hosts art exhibition on the second and third storey.

Live Music Clubs

If live music is your thing, one of the best places to party is Funky Villa. Known to host many of the popular Thai bands like Getsunova, Singto Numchok, Bodyslam and Musketeers, this is the spot that many music lovers hang out at. Be sure to dress to impress as you rock out to your favorite rock songs.

If you prefer western live music, then head over to Apoteka in Sukhumvit 11. Featuring the best expat bands with fusions of rock and roll, jazz and blues, you can be sure to have a good time here rocking out to popular songs from back home. You’ll also find delicious comfort food here!

Clubs

If clubbing along to the beats of a Deejay spinning is your things then you’ll find that clubs in Bangkok have much to offer you. With cheap bottles to secure a table in front of the club and inexpensive cover charges if you don’t want to splash out cash to get a table, you’ll feel welcome to party along the locals whatever your budget. Getting a table is preferred since you’ll be in front where all the action happens. Being in close proximity to the Deejay means you might be able to request for your favorite song to be played or you might be seating near a movie star or music artist.

DND (Do Not Disturb) is the name of the hottest club in Bangkok. Located in Ekkamai, this is where the high society of Thai executives come to party after work on a Friday. It's a standout amongst its competition because of the quality of design here. There’s a nice smoking room designed like a barbershop and the vintage theme carries the entire establishment. Its the best spot in town for EDM and Techno Beats and if you’re lucky, you might hear a Thai band perform a live set too.

Demo is one of the longest running clubs in Thonglor. You’ll come here to party if you like drum and bass or house music. Its considered a powerhouse club since there’s a big dance floor and feels like an industrial warehouse hosting an underground party for the select few. The scene here is more grungy and its common to see the Harley bike members party alongside students.
