Cheap Flights to San Juan
In the northeast of Puerto Rico, San Juan is the island's capital with one of the loveliest harbours in the Caribbean. Featuring ancient architecture, including Spanish military forts built during the 16th to 19th centuries, today the city is Puerto Rico's financial and industrial capital with sugar refineries and pharmaceutical plants. By complete contrast, there are also magnificent beaches, hotels, squares, historic landmarks and museums to enjoy.
San Juan was founded in 1521 and is the oldest city under US jurisdiction, enclosed by thick city walls. Within these walls flourish neighbourhoods like Santurce, bursting with energy and street art as well as excellent restaurants and bars that come alive by night. The city's cultural background is mainly Spanish mixed with African, Taíno and American influences, and San Juan citizens really know how to celebrate in style. There are many bars and clubs dotted around from the Old Town to the southern part of the city. Notable festivals include the annual San Sebastián Festival, held in the third week of January, the Casals Festival in July/August and the Heineken Jazz Festival in late May to early June.
