Hoedspruit, or "Hat Creek" in English, is a small agricultural town in the Central Lowveld of Limpopo Province located between Kruger National Park and the magnificent Blyde River Canyon. Backed by the scenic Klein Drakensberg Mountains, the town's attractions focus mainly around safari and wildlife activities along with adventure sports and outdoor fun. Kruger National Park and the private wildlife reserve surrounding the town offer great safari opportunities including horseback safaris, while Blyde River Canyon, the third largest of its kind in the world, is ideal for hiking and adventure sports.
Close to the town, a visit to the Sangana Cultural Village gives an insight into the life of the Shangaan people who are native to the area. Hoedspruit celebrates several local festivals relating to the agriculture of the area and South African wines. Another event offers the opportunity to join sport activities, while an annual music festival gives the chance to hear bands out in the fresh air.
Food and Wine Festival: Held in June each year, visitors can enjoy delicious food and wine tasting sessions while listening to live music. There are food and wine stalls available as well as a 'kiddies corner' to keep the children amused.
Hoedspruit Game Festival: Held every July, the Game Festival traditionally used to relate to the auction of game, but these days offers exciting free game drives, horse riding, a 4x4 course, a mountain bike race and a fun run.
Rocking for Rhinos Festival: Held each September, this music festival is held on the outskirts of town. With between 15 and 20 local and international bands and DJ's playing, the event runs over two days and two nights and benefits rhino protection in the area.
