Cheap Tickets to Agadir

Overlooked by its sprawling Kasbah, this bustling city is a popular resort and a busy port with a beachfront promenade full of colourful Moroccan street life. Safe, sandy beaches, a recently opened sparkling white marina and more than 300 days of sun each year all add to its holiday charm. The local Berber population is proud of its culture and long heritage while remaining extremely warm and welcoming to its annual influx of visitors. Agadir is located near the foothills of the Atlas Mountains and a settlement here first appears on maps in the early 14th century. It was later used as a trading post by the Portuguese, and today it successfully combines tourism with its port and fishing industries.

Things to do

Clean family-friendly beaches, excellent golf courses with a world-class reputation and luxury health spas all provide plenty of daytime activities in Agadir, and in the evening you can dine on freshly caught fish and seafood in local restaurants. When your meal is finished, join the locals for a stroll along the corniche, or promenade, and enjoy the live music and street performers.

  • A trading history

The Kasbah overlooking the town has survived since 1541 and was once a small walled town housing over 300 people. Today, just the outer walls remain along with some traces of former dwellings. The entrance is inscribed with a message in both Dutch and Arabic testifying to the region's trade links.

  • Window-shopping for a yacht

The Marina is a new development and entertainment hub where you can enjoy a drink while dreaming about owning a super yacht. Shop or enjoy the restaurants that surround the sparkling water, or you can enjoy a boat trip around the harbour.

  • Berber traditions

The Musée du Patrimoine Amazigh lets you explore the fascinating life and culture of Morocco's Berber people. It houses collections of artefacts that include beautiful jewellery.

Calendar of Events

Annual festivals and events bring colour and music to an already vibrant Agadir as well as having a strong focus on traditional foods. Joining in with the locals as they celebrate gives you a deeper insight into the life of the town.

  • Timitar Festival. Aimed at keeping the Berber culture alive and well, this festival takes place across the country in July. The best Berber bands, performers and singers return to their home towns from around the world to take part in this unique expression of music and dance.

  • Agadir Festival. This is the city's main festival of the year and takes place every December. It certainly makes use of the year-round sun as the streets fill up with parades as well as music and dance performed by both local and international artists.

  • The Honey Festival. This celebration of honey takes place every June in the nearby mountain village of Imouzzer des Ida Outanane. Honey is a very important ingredient in local cuisine, especially for making sweets and desserts such as Amlou, a delicious concoction of honey, toasted almonds and argan oil.
